Does Change in Water Really Cause Hair loss?

Hair loss is a common problem across the globe. It occurs due to a number of reasons, and one of them is the type of water your hair is exposed to. People living in urban areas experience more hair fall due to the poor quality of water. Consistent and uncontrollable hair fall can be a nightmare for anybody. Experts say that normally we lose between 50 and 100 strands of hair quite imperceptibly every day. So that’s nothing to be worried about.
There are certain types of water that are potentially harmful for your hair. Let’s take a look;
  • Chlorine water: Chlorine is a chemical added to tap water by the municipal corporations to get rid of pollutants. But regular exposure to chlorine can make your hair dry and eventually lead to hair loss. Chlorine is also added to the water in swimming pools and you must ensure that you don’t expose your hair for a long duration when you go for a swim.
  • Hard water: In cities, hard water is the major cause of hair loss. It contains high amounts of magnesium, silica and calcium, which lead to breakage, dryness and thinning of hair. Hard water also leads to dandruff and destroys your hair follicles.
  • Rain water: Rain water in its pure form is good for your hair. But high pollution levels make even the rain water toxic and acidic. Harmful pollutants in the air get mixed with rain water. If you get drenched in the rain, it leads to an itchy scalp. Furthermore, it weakens your hair strands and breaks easily.
  • Salt water: Sure, you enjoy playing on the beach but make sure that your hair isn’t exposed to the sea water. Sea water has high amounts of salt that leaves your hair dry and brittle. If you expose your hair to salty water, don’t forget to go through a deep conditioning procedure
  • Ground water: Ground water contains plenty of minerals like iron and magnesium. These minerals make your hair lusterless and eventually make your hair thin. This kind of water is mostly found in rural areas where there are hardly any freshwater sources
If the water quality in your area is deplorable, you can always use purified water for washing your hair along with natural remedies. Water purifiers rid your tap water of all kinds of impurities and contaminants while preserving essential minerals. So, use purified water and fight hair fall without stressing yourself.
